The winners of the 1st edition of the USM-Séché Group Chile Tesis Verde competition are Giovanna Sánchez and José González, both Chemical Civil Engineering students at the Universidad Federico Santa María (USM). They will each receive a prize of 500.000 pesos to complete their research. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to participate in the 1st joint webinar between Séché Group Chile and USM, presenting their winning thesis projects.
The deliberations were conducted by a jury was composed of Camila Mery, María Elisa Escobar, Miguel Zazopulos, academics from the USM Santiago and Viña del Mar Headquarters, and Séché Group Chile’s Business Development Manager, Jonathan Chang, who selected the projects of Giovanna and José titled “Technical/Economic Assessment and Feasibility for Different Techniques for Remediation of Mercury-contaminated Soils Associated with Small Mining” and “Energy recovery of products derived from pyrolysis of out-of-use tires: A Technical/Economic assessment from the perspective of the circular economy”, respectively.

The Tesis Verde competition is a collaborative initiative between Séché Group Chile and USM, which aims to provide financial support to students who are about to start or are in the process of completing their degree projects. The competition was open to students of Environmental Civil Engineering, Chemical Civil Engineering, Environmental and Occupational Risk Prevention as university degrees, as well as Chemistry with Analytical Chemistry major and Environmental Control as technical degrees.
